Jem (Chan Phap Ho) Fredriksson grew up in Stockholm. He began to meditate during his studies in at the University of Lund. In 1997 he graduated with a Masters in Law. After a few years working in Stockholm, he left work for a sabbatical year. Travel led him to pilgrimage places in India and became an extensive retreat experience. In Bodhgaya, he discovered Thich Nhat Hanh’s books and decided to go to Plum Village, France.
In May 2002, he arrived home in Plum Village. After many retreats and months of community life, he decided to join as a monk. He was a monk between 2003-2020. This time led him out into the world on mindfulness teaching and retreat tours with his teacher and community.
Between 2006 and 2020, he lived in the Deer Park Monastery, where he was an abbot from 2010-2020.
In 2004, he received the 14 Mindfulness Trainings and became a member of the Community of Interbeing, which he continues.
In 2010, he received the Teacher Lamp (Dharma Lamp) from Thich Nhat Hanh and has since given teachings and led retreats in many states in the US, in Canada and in Sweden. He has mentored younger monks and offered classes for them.
After being seriously ill with cancer 2018-2019, from which he has recovered, he has decided to continue living in Sweden. He continues to practice and teach and shares his joy, peace, love and freedom in Swedish on the Joy of the Heart – Hjärtats Glädje (WordPress and Facebook).
